When the garage door you had installed a few years ago has been hanging around for a while, you may start to notice that this handy door just is not as quiet as it once was. In fact, a little age on a garage door can make the thing downright noisy. Before you attempt a cure-all session with a can of spray lubrication, it is a good idea to consider what it is that is causing the noises to start with.

Screeches & Squeals
If this is a noise you are dealing with daily, there is no doubt you have already reached for the spray lubricant to no avail. While it is true that this type of noise is usually related to the need for lubrication, there has to be a reason why this is occurring in the first place.
Check to make sure the areas you have continuously lubricated are properly aligned. There is a good chance there is a loose connection, either a screw or fastener, that is causing the problem.
Grinds & Grumbles
If your garage door is making more fuss when you push the button than what you do when you climb out of bed in the morning, it usually means the door is struggling to open. This could be related to an opener that is going bad or a chain drive that is slipped off track. The sound that you hear is related to the metal components grinding against the track or gears of the opener.
Rattles & Rumbles
When you open or shut the door, the sound of rattling is alarming enough to make you think the whole thing is going to crash down around you. You may even notice that the door is shimmying and shaking as if it really will.
